Are there any discounts?

The Early Bird Discount has now expired.

If you require further financial assistance, please use the Contact form and select Scholarship Inquiry as the subject.

We offer the option for one person to register five people and only pay for four. The intention is to encourage several people from a community to attend together. You MUST all register at once, AND the total must go on one person’s credit card. We will need unique email addresses for each registrant. And this offer only applies to new registrants. If someone is already registered, they cannot be included in this offer.

Are there any scholarships?

Yes. There will be a limited number of scholarships. To alert us of your request, please use the Contact form and select Scholarship as the subject. We will be in touch by email by early March.

I want to volunteer - how does that work?

You can select Volunteer as the subject on the Contact form and your information will go to our volunteer coordinator. Volunteers receive free admission on the day they volunteer. All volunteer shifts are for 4+ hours. Admission does not include meals or the keynote. There will be a volunteer lounge with snacks. Our volunteer coordinator is still determining our volunteer needs and will be in touch by early March. Volunteers will receive a yellow t-shirt with the logo on the front and the bird on the back.

Is it possible to register only for a Tour or Intensive?

There will be limited space on both the Tours and Intensives. Initially we want to be sure conference registrants are able to sign-up for these special Pre-Conference offerings. As it gets closer, should there still be space, we will open up the option for non-attending folks to sign up for a Tour and/or Intensive. Stay tuned.

Can I visit the Open House Communities anytime?

No, we ask that you respect the privacy of participating communities and only visit during the scheduled Open House times on Sunday, June 2, 3:30-5 PM. Check this page for more details.

Will there be child care?

At this time the conference is not providing for child care. We suggest that if you are looking for childcare you can contact Northwest at +1 (503) 245-5288.

Will there be programming for kids?

There is not a program track for kids. If you would like to see programming for kids at future national conferences please email our Executive Director.


The Hilton Portland Downtown is the hotel venue and they are offering a special conference discount. They only have rooms left for Saturday and Sunday night. The nearby Paramount Hotel is offering the same discounted rate and have rooms available Wednesday through Sunday. You can book online using the above link or call them at 503-223-9900 and speak with their front desk and mention our conference block code COHOCON2019.

There are many hotels in the downtown area and of course some folks will look for available space at cohousing communities and through AirBnB.

The conference is not coordinating hotel room shares but we do suggest you get on our Facebook group and try to locate someone to room share with there. There is a volunteer in Portland working to setup a limited number of cohousing guest rooms at a nominal cost. If that is of interest please complete the contact form with the Coho Guest option as subject.


Airport: There is Portland train called the Max (Red line), that runs regularly from the airport to downtown ($2.50 for adults, $1.25 for seniors).

Pre-Conference Tours: includes coach bus transportation from the hotel and return.

Open Houses: Transportation is on your own to each community you wish to visit on Sunday afternoon.

Downtown Parking

Downtown parking is quite expensive so you’ll probably want to avoid these fees.

Refund Policy

We’re unable to offer refunds, but if you know you cannot attend, you may transfer your registration to another person and notify us so we can correct their name badge (if before May 1). You may also notify us that you cannot attend and would like to donate your registration fee to our Conference Scholarship Fund. If you must cancel we hope you’ll let us know so we don’t pay for unnecessary food. Please use the contact form and select Cancellation in the drop down for subject.

I'm registered - now what?

If you have not yet created your password at Sched here’s why you want to! 
After you registered we sent you an email invite with a custom link for you to create your login password at Sched. This platform allows you to customize your profile, choose to make it public or not and then select the sessions you think you’d like to attend. It does NOT commit you to these sessions. But it does help you decide what you want to attend. You can change it as often as you like. And by choosing to make it public, others in your community can see what you’re doing and choose complimentary sessions. It also helps the organizers to know which sessions need the larger rooms. If you can’t find your email with the invite, please let us know and we’ll resend it. Just email and ask for your Sched invite.
